Course overview

In Family Maths courses adults are taught on their own for part of the session and then the children join them to work together. Parents develop ideas that can be used to support their child’s skills in the classroom and at home. The sessions are very informal, with many activities to do together which are designed to be interesting and fun. The tutor works in conjunction with the school’s Maths and Homework Policies and there may be opportunities to watch a Maths session in the classroom. Tutors will encourage parents to discuss their own experiences of Maths at school and to look at developing their own Maths skills to keep up with their children. There are opportunities for parents to move on to work towards their own Maths qualification in the community as well.
