Course overview

Information Session: Tuesday 15th October 2019  2019 at 9.30 - 11.30
Course dates: Monday 21st  & Tuesday 22nd October  2019  at 9am to 5pm

The information session will  provide you with more detail about the course before you enrol.

On this Mental Health First Aid two day course, you will learn to spot the signs and symptoms of mental health and provide help on a first aid basis.

At the end of the course, you will know more about how to:

  • spot the triggers and signs of mental health
  • have confidence to reassure and support a person in distress
  • exercise non-judgemental listening skills
  • help someone to recover by guiding them to appropriate support
  • raise awareness and reduce stigma of mental health

Places are limited and registering your interest and attending the information session does not guarantee a place on the course.


Eligibility criteria

Learners must be aged 19 or over to be eligible for this course.

The course is free if you are:

  • Unemployed
  • or you are employed and earn less than £15,736.50 annual gross salary

You will need to provide evidence of your income if you are employed and believe you are entitled to a free course. This could be a pay slip or contract of employment.

If you are employed, the course is part funded by the government and you will be required to make a contribution of £150. We also operate a fee remission policy, so if you earn more than £15,736.50 per year but still cannot afford to pay for course you can apply for support. This may mean you get the course for free.   Please contact us if you would like to make an application.

Venue and accessibility

Park Lane Community Centre has 6 rooms available to hire as well as other facilities at the centre.

Free car parking is available outside the centre where there are also local shops. The building is wheelchair accessible.

As well as a small play barn for children up to 8 years old there is a community run café which offers a range of hot and cold drinks as well as sandwiches and snacks. opening times vary.
