Course overview

Information Session: Tuesday 3rd December  2019  9:30 -11:30
Course dates:  Tuesday 10th, Wednesday 11th, Thursday 12th,  Friday 13th 2019 10am to 2:30pm

The information session will  provide you with more detail about the course before you enrol.

On this Mental Health First Aid two day course, you will learn to spot the signs and symptoms of mental health and provide help on a first aid basis.

At the end of the course, you will know more about how to:

  • spot the triggers and signs of mental health
  • have confidence to reassure and support a person in distress
  • exercise non-judgemental listening skills
  • help someone to recover by guiding them to appropriate support
  • raise awareness and reduce stigma of mental health

You must attend the information session where we will provide further information about the course. 

Places are limited and registering your interest and attending the information session does not guarantee a place on the course.


Eligibility criteria

Learners must be aged 19 or over to be eligible for this course.

The course is free if you are:

  • Unemployed
  • or you are employed and earn less than £15,736.50 annual gross salary

You will need to provide evidence of your income if you are employed and believe you are entitled to a free course. This could be a pay slip or contract of employment

If you are employed, the course is part funded by the government and you will be required to make a contribution of £150. We also operate a fee remission policy, so if you earn more than £15,736.50 per year but still cannot afford to pay for course you can apply for support. This may mean you get the course for free.   Please contact us if you would like to make an application.

Venue and accessibility


Brookside Central has a large hall, a training room with computer access and other classrooms and meeting rooms. Free Wi-Fi is available.           

The building has a community run café which offers a range of hot and cold drinks as well as sandwiches and snacks. Opening times vary.

The building has a wheelchair accessible toilet and the centre has automatic doors and ramped access from the main car park. There is another smaller car park located at the back of the centre. Both car parks are free to use
