This advanced course is aimed at Level 1 and Level 2 learners. It is intended for people who do not already have a Level 2 qualification in maths and wish to gain a qualification in maths functional skills.
Our functional skills courses are offered across Telford in community venues. We run morning and afternoon sessions during school term time only. We offer four levels of maths functional skills from Entry 2 through to Level 2. There is opportunity to work towards a City and Guilds qualification in Functional Skills Maths and to progress between levels up to Level 2.
Come along and find out more about our Maths Functional Skills courses from our experienced tutors. You will be asked to undertake a short skills assessment to help us advise you on an appropriate course. You may be offered a course on a different day or at a different level to the one you have registered for.
During the information and advice session, the tutor will explain more about our courses and the options available to you. If you have certificates for any maths qualifications already, bring them with you to the information session.
Please do not register your interest on more than one functional skills maths course. Our tutors will help you to choose the course which is most appropriate for you at the information session.
This course will run for 18 weeks.
This course will be on Wednesdays 09:15 - 12:00.
Information session 15/2/23
First teaching session 1/3/23
We understand it can be difficult for you to take the first steps and try something new so, on the first day of the course, our friendly tutor will talk to you about the course and offer some useful information and advice.
If we cannot offer you a place on your preferred course, we may be able to offer a course at another of our community venues in Telford.
Learners must be aged 19 or over from 1st August 2022 to be eligible for this course. You are not eligible for this course if you have already achieved a Level 2 in maths (that is an ‘O’ level grade C or above, CSE grade 1, GCSE grade C/4 or above, Functional Skills Level 2, Basic Skills or Skills for Life Level 2 or similar).
If you already have a maths or English qualification and are unsure whether you are eligible to enrol onto a course, please come along to one of our information sessions and chat to the tutor who will check this with you.
Unfortunately, you will not be eligible to enrol on this course if you live in Wolverhampton, Walsall, Sandwell, Dudley, Solihull or Birmingham.
If you have any covid symptoms, please let your tutor know and do not attend your class until you feel better.
Oakengates Town Council’s new community venue is called The Wakes. The Wakes has an IT room with 10 networked computers. A formal meeting room for 20 people. Also a bigger room holding up to 120 people, although this can be made smaller.
There is a café in the building and we have a lift and disabled toilets. Oakengates high street is close by with various shops and cafes.
