Course overview

This course is for parents, carers with a child who attend Newdale Primary School.

The course is intended for those who are preparing to progress to working with children or working towards a career in child development. The course is also valuable in helping parents support their own children to learn.

By the end of the course, learners should:
- Know more about children’s social and emotional needs and how they can be met
- Understand key aspects of child development
- Understand how to encourage children to feel positive about themselves
- Understand the role and purpose of play in child development

 

Learners will study:

Understanding Children’s Social and Emotional Development Level 1

Understanding Play Level 1

By successfully completing this course you will achieve an Level 1 Award in Child Development (OCNWM)

 

Session details

You must attend all sessions to achieve the full award.

You will produce and submit a completed portfolio of your work and continually assessed throughout the 12 weeks. There is no final exam.

Eligibility criteria

This course is available to parents. carers with a child who attend Newdale Primary School. Parents do not need any previous experience. Any parents with any special needs can discuss these with the tutor at enrolment to ensure that the course is suitable or can be adapted for their needs. The course is available to all adults who have children in the school. If numbers applying for the course are high preference will be given to parents who: • Do not hold a full-level 2 qualification including English or maths. • Do not hold a level 2 Maths qualification • Do not hold a level 2 English qualification • Are unemployed or retired. • Are claiming JSA • Employed and looking to progress onto further Family Learning courses • Are parents/carers of children/young people who are entitled to free school meals. Parents who have been referred to the course for the purposes of improving their mental health and wellbeing

What to Do Next

Parents who want to progress to work in a school will need to gain a Level 2 qualification in English and maths. We offer a Level 2 Award in Child Development. We offer a range of courses to gain these qualifications so please search the website for more details
