This FREE course will give you the opportunity to explore fun and creative ways to engage and inspire children to learn maths. On this course you will be introduced to problem solving and number work methods used in primary schools to teach maths and ways to practice at home. These sessions will allow you to practise these techniques in an informal and friendly environment with an experienced primary school teacher.

During the course you will be:

  • experience engaging maths based games and creating a game involving measuring and nets etc

  • using problem solving skills to look at logic, picture and reasoning skills.

  • finding a way to break problems up into step by step chunks.

  • looking at how to support children at home and answer maths questions

  • look at how to use math resources to support child’s learning – Number lines, squares etc.

This course is supported by Multiply funding. Multiply is the Government funded campaign within the Skills for Life Strategy aimed at supporting adults to improve their skills and confidence with everyday maths. Multiply offers easy access to free courses and initiatives where you can build your confidence in using numbers at work or in everyday life, or even gain a qualification.  Visit skillsforlife.campaign.gov.uk/multiply to find out about Multiply.                          

Before the course begins, the tutor will contact you to confirm a place and check for any support needs to ensure that the course is suitable for you. We will endeavour where possible to meet your needs.

All materials and equipment will be provided on this course.

Session details

We understand it can be difficult for you to take the first steps and try something new so on the first day of the course, our friendly tutor will talk to you about the course and offer some useful information and advice.

Eligibility criteria

This course is supported by Multiply funding. Multiply is the Government funded campaign within the Skills for Life Strategy aimed at supporting adults to improve their skills and confidence with everyday maths.

Learners must be aged 19 or over from 1st August 2022

Unfortunately you will not be eligible to enrol on this course if you live in Wolverhampton, Walsall, Sandwell, Dudley, Solihull or Birmingham.

The course is FREE for those who are eligible to enrol on the course.
