Course overview

This course is offered to parents, grandparents and carers of children who attend Wrockwardine Wood Junior School.

This is a short Family Learning course intended for parents to have a go at cooking using basic skills, for healthy eating and budgeting.  An informal and friendly environment with an experienced tutor

The course is intended for parents with little or no basic cooking skills, to prepare easy recipes that you can do at home and learn about budgeting for healthier eating.

At the end of the course, parents will have gained confidence in cooking and prepared a variety of meals,  perhaps including some pasta with sauces, curry, vegetable based meals.

Learners with any special needs can discuss these with the tutor at enrolment to ensure that the course is suitable or can be adapted for their needs.

Eligibility criteria

This course is offered to parents, grandparents and carers of children who attend Wrockwardine Wood Junior School.

Adults do not need any previous experience. Any parents with any special needs can discuss these with the tutor at enrolment to ensure that the course is suitable or can be adapted for their needs. The course is available to all adults who have been referred from Child and Families services. If numbers applying for the course are high preference will be given to parents who: • Do not hold a full-level 2 qualification including English or maths. • Do not hold a level 2 Maths qualification • Do not hold a level 2 English qualification • Are unemployed or retired. • Are claiming JSA • Employed and looking to progress onto further Family Learning courses • Are parents/carers of children/young people who are entitled to free school meals. Parents who have been referred to the course for the purposes of improving their mental health and wellbeing
