Course overview

On this course, you will explore a variety of weaving techniques and skills using upcycled materials to create beautiful crafts for your home or give as gifts for special occasions and use those skills in an enterprise project.

  • Learn traditional techniques and apply them using contemporary sustainable and upcycled materials, such as card, paper, wire, found objects, vintage clothing and natural fibres and plants
  • Create woven objects and artworks in both 2 and 3 dimensions
  • Explore weaving irregular, circular, conical and regular forms – as well as weaving in flat patterns
  • promotions and enterprise skills to help present and sell your crafts

All materials will be provided on this course.

During the course you will produce a portfolio art work and written work towards the Level 1 Award in Life Living and Skills - Craft Pathway (AIM Qualifications). If you have already achieved the Open College Network West Midlands Level 1 Award in Craft Design or Craft and Enterprise you will not be eligible to join this course.

The course is taught in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and no previous experience is needed. Learners with any special needs can discuss these with the tutor at enrolment to ensure that the course is suitable or can be adapted for their needs.
