Course overview

This short course is for adults who have a child starting in Reception at Wrockwardine Wood Infants in September 2025.

This course is designed to support parents and their child through this transition from nursery to school. 

Some of the topics covered over the four weeks include;

  • Toileting
  • Lunch time
  • Speaking and Listening
  • School curriculum
  • Developing independence
  • Developing relationships
  • Supporting your child’s emotional adjustments

The course is delivered by experienced early years tutor and is a fun and informal.

Places are limited.

Eligibility criteria

This short course is for adults who have a child starting in Reception at Wrockwardine Wood Infants in September 2025.

Parents do not need any previous experience. Any parents with special needs can discuss these with the tutor at enrolment to ensure that the course is suitable or can be adapted for their needs. The course is available to all adults who have children in the school. If numbers applying for the course are high, preference will be given to parents who:

  • do not hold a Level 2 maths or English qualification
  • are unemployed or retired
  • are claiming Job Seekers' Allowance
  • are employed and looking to progress onto further Family Learning courses
  • are parents/carers of children/young people who are entitled to free school meals
  • have been referred to the course for the purposes of improving their mental health and wellbeing
