Course overview

This course is designed to familiarize and support parents and children with SEN in year 6, with their upcoming move to New Road Academy Secondary school. Parents and their child will meet at NRA reception area on the afternoon of the session

The transition to secondary school can be a daunting time for SEN children and their parents. This 4 week course is designed to help familiarise families with the secondary school environment in the summer term before the move to secondary school in the autumn. The course is run in an informal, relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Families are given ample opportunity to meet up with other parents and the new staff and have time for discussing any issues which arise as well as lots of space for asking questions about the new school. We run many fun activities for the parents and their child during the sessions, some of these are designed to help familiarise them with the school buildings, others to provide time to get to know the staff who will support them through their early days at the new school.  The emphasis is on supporting SEN, well-being for both parents and their children during this period of transition.
