Course overview

This course is available for parents with a child who attends St Peters (Bratton)

This accredited course is intended for learners who have completed the Supporting Children’s Learning level 1 course and want to continue their learning by progressing to a Level 2 Award.  The course is a next step for people who are preparing to work with children but is also valuable in helping parents support their own children to learn.

By successfully completing this course you will have the opportunity to achieve a Level 2 Award in Employability and Development Skills (Childcare Pathway).

You will need to have completed the Level 1 Supporting Children’s Learning to be able to enrol on this course or have relevant previous experience working with children.

The course is relevant for anyone who wants to support children at home or in an education setting or are interested in volunteering in children's settings.

At the end of the course learners will know more about:

  • approaches and methods to teach reading difficulties and strategies to help and support children's development and factors that can influence it

Learners will study units in:

  • Supporting a child with reading
  • Understanding how children learn

Assessment is completed through collating a portfolio with the support of an experienced, qualified tutor.  You will need to be able to attend at least 80% of the teaching sessions to do this.

The course is taught in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and there is opportunity to meet other adult learners.

Session details

You will need to commit to attend all 10 sessions in order to achieve the Level 2 Qualification, unless agreed with the tutor.

 

Eligibility criteria

This course is available for parents with a child who attends St Peters (Bratton)

Parents do not need any previous experience. Any parents with any special needs can discuss these with the tutor at enrolment to ensure that the course is suitable or can be adapted for their needs. The course is available to all adults who have children in the school. If numbers applying for the course are high preference will be given to parents who: • Do not hold a full-level 2 qualification including English or maths. • Do not hold a level 2 Maths qualification • Do not hold a level 2 English qualification • Are unemployed or retired. • Are claiming JSA • Employed and looking to progress onto further Family Learning courses • Are parents/carers of children/young people who are entitled to free school meals. Parents who have been referred to the course for the purposes of improving their mental health and wellbeing
